To obtain design standards for structures that are not included in the work, an authorised person must apply for a design approval scheme. Design approval schemes can be for individual structures or for groups of structures and most frequently they can be applied for by architects. The work of Design Approval Schemes consists of two parts. The first part is the type approval scheme that provides the guidelines for the production of designs to ensure that structures are safe and sound and that the designers have met their obligations under the Building Act 1976. The second part is the documentation scheme, which applies to the documentation of the design. The documentation scheme is concerned with the production of documentation and the technical drafting of the design to meet the design approval scheme requirements. Design Approval Schemes are structured and there are two levels of design approval, primary and secondary. The primary design approval is achieved when the design and construction documents have been approved by the appropriate government authority for both the type approval and documentation schemes. The secondary design approval occurs when all the design approval criteria have been met and the construction documents have been approved for construction by the appropriate government authority for both the type approval and documentation schemes. The AASA is a self-regulatory organisation with a role similar to the RAA or the RPOA in relation to certain building services. AASA Codes of Practice are listed in the table below. Some Codes of Practice are only available on the AASA's website.addRule('valid_doc_type', 'check_doc_type'); return array_merge(parent::rules(), array( array('id','required'),
